Mike Holguin - Nanoracks

We are thrilled to share that industry veteran Michael Holguin has joined the Nanoracks team as the Starlab Program Manager. Michael has 39 years of experience leading teams and managing the development of cutting-edge next generation space systems including time spent at General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, and United Launch Alliance.

He has held leadership positions as a program and mission manager for the integration and launch of 17 successful DoD, NASA, and commercial satellite programs, including three new launch vehicle development programs. As Starlab’s program manager, Michael will oversee the design, development, integration, and operation of the system. He will also work closely with Nanoracks’ partners to meet customer and stakeholder requirements.

“Michael’s knowledge and program management acumen will be key to the development of Starlab and other related programs,” said Marshal Smith, senior vice president of space systems at Nanoracks. “We are very excited to have him on the team and look forward to achieving great things with him here at Nanoracks.”

Michael started his career at General Dynamics developing astronaut crew flight operations for the STS Space Shuttle Centaur program and later managed the development of the human rated Atlas V for commercial crew to fly both the CST-100 and Sierra Nevada Corporations’ Dream Chaser crew vehicle. His broad experience includes managing the development and upgrade of the AR1 and RD-180 main engines, avionics, propulsion systems and lightweight tank structures programs.

“Though I have spent my entire career in this industry, I have never been this excited to take on a new challenge and role,” said Holguin. “The team at Nanoracks and particularly those working on Starlab are not just incredibly talented, but they are also truly passionate about the missions and research Starlab is meant to address. I am so grateful for the opportunity to join such a special team and am ready to get started!”

Michael lives in Denver and has four children and four grandchildren. He enjoys Colorado’s wide variety of outdoor sports including golfing, hunting, fishing, and motorcycle riding among many other activities.
