Since 2009, Nanoracks has created and expanded new in-space markets and has been the world leader for ushering in a new era of in-space services. Currently, Nanoracks is working to build commercial space stations (“Outposts”) from the spent upper stages of launch vehicles in orbit. Nanoracks is looking for an experienced Manager of Project Management to lead a team of outstanding Project Managers.

What We're Looking For

The selected candidate will ensure that project manager principles are implemented and employed.  This role is responsible for leading the project team as a functional organization that provides project management services across all programs within the company.  This role reports to the COO.

The project team coordinates complex aerospace projects and leads a cross functional team of engineers and subcontractors, meeting project objectives.This is a leadership role within the company and the selected candidate is expected to identify improvement opportunities and communicate improvement plans to management.

Description of Responsibilities

  • Mentor team in accepted project management principles.
  • Create business rhythm to provide project status, schedule and budget update on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis. This includes financial roll up from project level to program level.
  • Implement/Improve processes to capture/update/monitor project actual/forecasted costs.
  • Coordinate with the program and functional teams to ensure the proper resourcing of projects.
  • Take responsibility for project issues and guide project manager in problem resolution.
  • Performance frequent ad hoc and annual performance reviews of direct reports.
  • Participate in management level planning sessions; including financial, resource, and strategy planning.
  • Maintain key partnership with program management to ensure program and project alignment.
  • Foster an effective team communication culture.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or another relevant field.
  • 10 to 15 years aerospace project management experience
  • Project management experience in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven track record managing multiple projects
  • Experience in planning and executing projects at all phases, from concept to flight.
  • Experience in creating SOWs from WBSs and detailed tasks.
  • Experience managing project budgets of +$5MM.
  • Experience with all aspects of project management including: scheduling, cost controls, stakeholder management, risk management, problem resolution, and communication
  • Must communicate well and work with the various teams within and outside of the organization.
  • Must possess the ability to effectively coordinate efforts with departments/subcontractors and hold teams accountable to meet project deliverables.


Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA
  • PMP
  • The candidate should have a high-level understanding of space vehicle systems and understand the importance of interfacing these systems.
  • Knowledge of program phases, design, testing, qualification.
  • Track projects using project management software
  • Knowledge of the preparation of technical proposals and project requirements
  • Engineering manpower forecasting and tracking experience (a plus)
  • Demonstrated leadership skills to lead teams to meet project objectives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to simplify and communicate complex problems
  • Ability to communicate with all levels in the organization
  • Detail oriented
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Reliable, self-motivated and open-minded
  • Geared to share information and communicate with team members
  • Able to identify program risk, engineering ‘scope creep’, and develop/implement risk mitigation planning
  • Experience with avionics systems integration, including understanding of electrical and structural aspects
