Flight Hardware Processing Assistant

Overview:

The NASA HUNCH Flight Hardware Processing Assistant has responsibility for supporting the High School Students United with NASA to Create Hardware (HUNCH) project. The HUNCH program provides an innovative, strategic, education partnership pairing NASA’s unique capabilities and experience with the ingenuity of high school and intermediate students in creating authentic hardware and softgoods for NASA to use in support of missions and research.

The NASA HUNCH Flight Hardware Processing Assistant will work with the Flight Hardware Assembly Expert and a team of technical specialists to support high school students and teachers at partner schools in the successful fabrication and processing of aerospace hardware for NASA. Support required by the NASA HUNCH Flight Hardware Processing Assistant includes providing technical training and troubleshooting to participating teachers.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work in a safe and organized manor. Maintain and promote a safe, clean and organized work area at all times.
  • Assist in the fabrication and assembly of Flight Hardware in compliance with NASA requirements and standards.
  • Piece part inspection, quality assurance and documentation.
  • Maintain quality assurance records and documentation as required.
  • Assist with precision sheet metal fabrication.
  • Raw material tracking and traceability control.
  • Assist in mentoring high school students and teachers in aerospace assembly techniques and requirements.
  • Support management and tracking of projects inventory.
  • Reports to Flight Hardware Assembly Lead.

 

Working Conditions:

Metal fabrication shop environment. Metal working, machining, forming, bending and Flight Assembly Lab. Safety First is of the utmost importance

 

Requirements

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Experience with Processing and assembly of NASA Flight Hardware in compliance with NASA requirements and standards.
  • Ability to assist Flight Hardware Assembly Expert and Projects Manager in processing and assembly of NASA Flight Hardware in compliance with NASA requirements and standards.
  • Support fabrication, dimensional inspection, finishing work and quality assurance documentation of piece parts in compliance with engineering drawings as required for assembly.
  • Energetic willingness to learn.
  • Adaptable/flexible and ability to handle multiple tasks in a high paced environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, customer service, presentation and interpersonal.
  • Exceptional team environment and organizational skill; and demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous Experience in Flight Hardware manufacturing and processing.
  • Demonstrated hands on experience in the ability to perform fabrication and processing of aerospace hardware.
